Some local students are being immersed in the world of the Phantom of the Opera.
This season, the Rochester Broadway Theatre League received a national grant to fund the program called, "Beyond the Mask. " Three local schools involved were hand picked. They were Walt Disney School in the Gates Chili School District, St. Joseph's School in Penfield and Pinnacle School No. 35.
Over the course of the school year, students will be doing things like reading the book, "The Phantom of the Opera", watching the original silent film and ultimately seeing the live performance at the Auditorium Theatre.
Bria, RBTL Arts Education Program student, said, "When I get older I want to be able to be in the Phantom of the Opera because I love it so much and when I saw it on my tablet I thought it was really cool."
This week, students are taking part in a "Power of Music" workshop with a vocal instructor from Nazareth College. Nearly 100 local students are part of the "Beyond the Mask" program.
