Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. in Rochester

Civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. is being remembered today on the federal holiday in his honor. Parades, marches and service projects are planned nationwide. Below are some local events being held in his honor.

Starting at 11:30 a.m,  people will pay tribute to Dr. King with a song and dance celebration at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Also at 11:30 a.m., Nazareth College will remember Dr. King during a church service on at the Golisano Academic Center Building Chapel.

At 12 p.m., residents are encouraged to "Skate to Commemorate" at the recently renamed Martin Luther King skating rink in downtown Rochester. Amerks players will be on hand to take pictures with fans until 1 p.m.

A reminder that all government buildings, banks and post offices will be closed for the national holiday.
