One of the big projects for New York in the year ahead has to do with building casinos on non-Indian land. But a local group is saying they don't want to see one in our area.
The "No More Casinos Coalition held its first news conference Tuesday morning. They are speaking out against a plan to bring a full casino to Monroe County. Right now, there are talks of plans to bring a casino to the Henrietta area.
Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson said, "There is a side deal the governor made with the Senecas to get their support for last year's proposal, so they'll be able to expand their reach. If you remember the news reports last fall, there was speculation about the Senecas coming to Monroe County, now it appears they have stepped that up."
There's also been discussion of a possible casino coming to the Seneca County town of Tyre. Plans for that casino have already been presented to the public at local meetings. The official selection process for locations will begin in March.
