Wegmans' Check Out Hunger and Care About Hunger campaigns raised a record $1.58-million in 2013. That’s a 14-percent increase over the 2012 total.
"We're grateful to our customers and employees for recognizing the vital role that food banks play in communities," said Linda Lovejoy, Wegmans community relations manager. "These results are a testament to remarkable generosity."
Both campaigns allowed shoppers to donate $1, $2, $3, or $5 (or any amount) at checkout to each store's local food bank. In Rochester, the money raised goes to Foodlink. This year, $685,015 was raised.
