News10NBC has learned that a police officer and special education teacher accused of insurance fraud after their home caught fire pleaded guilty to third-degree insurance fraud.

Melissa Eagley and Steven Eagley Jr. were charged after an investigation into a fire at their home in May of 2010. Steven, a former Clifton Springs police officer, is facing forgery and misconduct charges in an unrelated incident. His wife, Melissa, is also charged with arson in connection with another fire in 2011. That case will go to trial this spring.

Melissa was a special education teacher in Phelps Clifton Springs. She is still employed by the district, but is no longer teaching.
