The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation is defending Lolo Jones' selection to the team picked to compete in the Sochi Olympics, saying it relied on data, results and nothing else.
Jones is one of three athletes picked to push sleds in Sochi. She was named to the team Sunday night. The federation has gotten a number of complaints since suggesting that it chose Jones because of her popularity.
USBSF CEO Darrin Steele tells The Associated Press that no outside entity had any influence over the selection committee and that he has double-checked all available data since to make sure Jones was the right pick.
Emily Azevedo and Katie Eberling were other candidates for the third push spot.
