News10NBC has learned new information related to the deputy involved shooting that happened in Pittsford on Wednesday.
Ogden Police say, prior to the incident in Pittsford, the suspect, Vincenzo Zagari, was identified as a person of interest for a crime in the village of Spencerport. Police say that crime was an attempted bank robbery at the M&T Bank in the village of Spencerport on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office say the 22-year-old shoplifted from Wegmans in Pittsford Plaza Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say he crashed a car, reported stolen out of Ogden, in the parking lot and tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint.
After the shoplifting and carjacking happened, investigators say Zagari was confronted by Deputy Bridget Davis across the street at M&T bank. They say he tried to attack her with a hammer. Davis hit the suspect with her baton in the leg and in the arm. That's when investigators say Zagari drew out a pellet gun and pointed it toward Deputy Davis. She then aimed her weapon and fired, striking him in the chest. Investigators later found two pellet guns, along with the hammer and bags of cocaine and heroin.
Zagari is currently in guarded condition at Strong Hospital.
