Common Core continues to be a hot button issue for many parents in our area. Several state senators are continuing their fight against the standards, asking education commissioner John King  to delay rolling out any new requirements.

Senator Ted O’Brien, (D), 55th District, said, “I think the key is not that we're not embracing the mission of Common Core, but in terms of implementation we need to be cognizant of the fact that they're real students and real teachers and they're doing their best to make changes that will help students succeed.”

Lawmakers say they’ve received a number of complaints from parents, teachers and administrators saying the program doesn’t help students get the skills they need. King responded saying the standards are urgent.
