Blowing snow causing white-out conditions has forced the shutdown of a southbound stretch of Interstate 81 north of the city and several other upstate New York roads.
Officials say Route 370, also known as the Onondaga Lake Parkway, is open again after being closed Monday because of snow and high winds. The Department of Transportation says I-81 is closed between Exits 37 and 36 in Oswego County because of several accidents caused by the weather. Routes 11, 11B and 177 also are closed.
Several dozen schools from western New York to the North Country called off classes or delayed their start as the region is blasted by another round of snow and high winds gusting to more than 40 mph in some areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for most of western New York until late Tuesday morning.
