When Apple released the iPhone seven years ago, it changed the game for what people expected from what used to be a tool to make calls, get email and take the occasional grainy photo. But can Apple now step up its game to match what other companies have done to challenge it? It's a question being asked as more companies have been releasing smartphones with lower prices and larger screens than the iPhone.

There have been reports that Apple's next iPhone will have a larger screen than the one on the current model, the Apple 5s. But in a conference call with analysts this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple's goal was to "make the best, not the most."
