A bicyclist is dead after being struck by an RTS bus early Thursday in Rochester.
News10NBC had a crew on the scene on North Clinton and Sullivan Streets in Rochester. Police say the collision happened around 12:45 a.m. on Rochester's north side. An RTS bus was traveling north on North Clinton when a female bicyclist turned into its path from Sullivan Street.
Police say the bus tried to veer out of the way, but hit the bicyclist. Officers say the bus ran over the woman. Police say the bicyclist was declared dead on the scene. There were four people on the bus at the time, and police are questioning them for more details on the incident.
As of 8 a.m., several roads in the area are still blocked off to traffic, including North Clinton Avenue from Sullivan Street to Clifford Avenue. Police say the roads may be blocked through the morning commute.
A spokesperson with RGRTA released a statement saying, "We're deeply saddened by the tragic accident that occurred this morning on Clinton Avenue. The Rochester Police Department is in complete charge of the investigation and we are cooperating with them fully. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim and our Bus Operator at this very difficult time."
