More than two dozen New Yorkers will be with the U.S. Olympic team competing at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia next week.
The athletes and coaches include 22 New Yorkers heading to the Winter Games starting on Feb. 6 and another three from the Empire State who will compete at the Paralympic Games in Sochi beginning March 7.
Four of the New Yorkers are members of the New York Army National Guard: bobsledders Nicholas Cunningham and Justin Olsen, and luge team member Matthew Mortensen and luge coach William Tavares.
Olsen was a member of the U.S. Bobsled that won the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
The U.S. men's hockey team has six New Yorkers, including NHL stars Patrick Kane of Buffalo and Ryan Callahan.
