Created: 01/31/2014 5:24 PM WHEC.com

It's an incredible story and a reminder that people can defy the odds. Today marks five years since Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio was shot in the back of the head.

DiPonzio was on duty on Dayton Street when he was shot. He spent two months in the hospital recovering. Then in November 2011, he returned to work with the Rochester Police Department.

News10NBC caught up with Officer DiPonzio today as he reflected on the past five years.

The teen who shot DiPonzio, Tyquan Rivera, is serving a three and a half to 10 years sentence for attempted murder and assault. He was just 14-years-old when he was convicted.
