Becoming a police officer is one of the classic childhood dream jobs. The Rochester Police Department hosted a career day at School No. 45 on Clifford Avenue.

The sixth graders got to learn about the different parts of the department, like the SWAT team and canine unit.

Officers say it is all about engaging with the youngsters in a positive way.

Investigator Jacqueline Shuman, Rochester Police Department, said, "They were so excited, they were very engaged, they asked lots of questions, and they were very happy to be here and we were happy to have them here.”

Dontrell Hughes said, “The canines. They are smart and they find bombs and chase after people that are robbers.”

The police officers will stop by School No. 36 next week to play board games with second graders.
