A new type of treatment for patients with high cholesterol and Rochester is the only place in upstate New York where you'll find it.

Doctors with UR Medicine have started using a device called Liposorber. The technology works to remove bad cholesterol from patient's blood. It's been approved by the FDA.

News10NBC spoke to doctors at UR Medicine about when this type of treatment is considered.

Robert Block, M.D. M.P.H, UR Medicine, said, "Usually, after they've had a heart attack or if the levels are just so high before a heart attack that we know that their risk for a heart attack is very high."
