Governor Cuomo has activated the state Emergency Operation Center to monitor the storm and he is asking people to avoid unnecessary travel.

Here are other steps the state is taking to make sure you are safe during the storm:

The New York State Public Service Commission will extend its helpline hours. That means if you have any questions about preparing for the storm, you can call 1-800-342-3377 as early as 7:30 a.m.

State Police say all their special winter weather fleet will be on the highways to help in emergency situations. We’re also told many troopers have been reassigned to patrol duty during the storm.
