Friday is a big day in the fight against heart disease and the city and the county are working to make sure you know about it.

Officials held a "Go Red" event inside the Monroe County Office Building Thursday morning. It's all part of Friday's "Go Red for Women" Day to raise awareness about heart disease.

Local leaders like Mayor Lovely Warren and County Executive Maggie Brooks asked for participation. Cardiologists and heart disease survivors shared their stories and advice on how to keep your heart healthy.

Sarah Yantachka, heart disease survivor, said, "I feel like what this heart disease has taught me is to live each day like it's your last and to appreciate things. My definition of success is not this person who's in corporate or anything, my definition of success is to be happy. To have a family, to enjoy them and to enjoy the little things."

Heart disease is the number one killer among women.
