Tax dollars that are supposed to go towards fixing potholes and outdated, rusting bridges on our state highways are being spent elsewhere. That's according to a new report by the state comptroller.

It says less than a quarter of the Dedicated Highway and Bridge Trust Fund goes toward major repair projects.

Your tax dollars contribute to the fund when you pay a fee at the DMV or when you fill up the car through the state's gas tax. The report says the money goes towards debt payment and day-to-day operations.
