The Genesee River was a topic of conversation in our area Thursday. Community leaders and environmental experts came together to discuss the quality of the Genesee River and ways to improve it.

The event consisted of breakout sessions to come up with an action plan for the river. All the information collected will be complied into a report, which will be used as a guide to establish a clean water initiative for the river.

George Thomas, Center for Environmental Initiatives, said, “The one thing we all talk about in this region, the one asset that brings people here that everybody talks about is the water. And we need to protect that water. We have a legacy we want to leave to our children and we need to make sure the water is there for them to use.”

Organizers of the summit also plan to hold an annual follow up called the State of the Genesee River Basin to keep the progress moving forward.
