Our affiliate in Buffalo, WGRZ, is reporting that police responded to a report of a gunman either inside or neaby an elementary Thursday afternoon.

The school, Harvey Austin Elementary School, was put into lockdown mode while police searched the school and the surrounding area. WGRZ says at least 20 police vehicles were on the scene.

Buffalo Police spokesman Mike DeGeorge told WGRZ that  officers conducted a thorough search of the school and did not find anything. Erie County Air One was nearby and did a sweep of the school's roof as K9 units searched inside.

Later, a spokesperson told WGRZ that an adult regularly involved in after-school activities is believed to be the person who was seen with a gun. That person is being questioned by police. They don't believe that the individual had any ill intent, and no charges have been made.

Late this evening, buses arrived to pick up the children who were in the school during the incident. They were taken to School 91, the Build Academy, to be reunited with their families.
