Thursday, a Fairport honored one of their own.

Mourners brought candles, and climbed Fairport high school's "Angel Hill," To pay tribute to Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Hoffman graduated from Fairport schools.

He was found dead inside his apartment in New York City this past weekend. His death left the Hollywood community and his hometown stunned.

We spoke with Katie Zink-Warren, at tonight's vigil, who grew up in the same neighborhood as Hoffman.

“We used to do plays on his back deck at his house for the neighborhood. I guess he helped me bring out my creative side. I know he's in heaven looking down on this and I’m just happy to be a part of it,” said Zink-Warren.

Back in 2006, Fairport High School honored Hoffman by inducting him into the school's wall of fame.
