There's no denying we've had a harsh winter when it comes to the weather. From the heavy snowfalls and storms to the freezing temperatures.
As a result, News10NBC has learned more families are struggling to pay their heating bills this year. The Catholic Family Center says it has seen an increase of the number of people looking for aid. Right now, they say they're only able to help stall RG&E from turning off service. That's why Bishop Salvatore Matano says parishes will be asked to take a second collection for heating aid.
But workers say more is needed to help people pay their bills.
Lisa Lewis, Catholic Family Center, said, "The help is definitely needed. If we could get more of the Catholic parishioners to help some of those individuals who do have large amounts large volumes of RG&E bills."
The government has also offered to provide more funding for heating aid. If you need help with your heating bill, call the Catholic Family Center at 546-7220.
