Rochester Police Department releases 2013 crime stats

On Friday, the Rochester Police Department released crime statistics for 2013.

While crime saw decreases in many areas, officers say there are still several challenges facing the city.

The department says 2013 had the lowest property crime level in the past 25 years. That covers burglaries, larcenies, and auto theft. 

Also, the number of aggravated assaults and reported rapes also decreased from 2012.

As for the challenges, the department says there were six more homicides in 2013. Increasing from 36 in 2012 to 42 in 2013. Also, while there were fewer shooting incidents, there more shooting victims.
