Homicide rates have doubled in Rochester from this time last year, from three to six. Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren says the department is hard at work and that arrests have actually been made in most of those cases.

Warren says a key in fighting crime and finding those responsible is building relationships with the police department and the people who live in the city.

Mayor Lovely Warren said, "The community has been very supportive in coming forward and giving information. It's important for the police department to build a relationship with our department and the community and that's what we need. We need to let people know if you commit a crime in the city, people will come forward and you will be arrested."

Warren also says the search continues for the next police chief. The notice has been sent out to the departments across the county and there will also be a community input session down the road.
