Rochester Police were called to Northeast & Northwest High School at the Frederick Douglass Campus for a several incidents among students inside the school.
The Rochester City School District says there was a fight in the school cafeteria around 1:00p.m. School staff worked to breakup the fight, but district officials say the school called police when the fighting continued outside. The students were all back in school before 1:30 p.m. and were not allowed to leave their classroom for the final two class periods.
District officials says two students were taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries. They say some students were exposed to pepper spray and were seen by the school nurse.
All parents were notified with an automated phone call.
The students told News10NBC that students were climbing up on tables and jumping up and down on other students. They say it was an out of control fight. One student told us she was attacked.
Jada Jones said, “Everybody is just going one against the other. Today, one of the girls tried to jump me with her older cousins. I got attacked in the back hallway and everything is hurting right now.”
Teresa Spence, mother, said, “It’s something that is occurring more often. To this degree, it’s not, but on a daily basis, you hear about kids being bullied and terrorized.”
