When should you have someone else do your taxes and how do you pick that person?
A major life change, like a marriage or retirement, might make it wise to hire a tax professional. That's according to the American Institute of CPAs which has some tips to find the right person.
Does the prospective preparer have experience for your type of return? Credentials are important and you want a CPA, enrolled agent or attorney.
Make sure they have a preparer tax identification number from the IRS and that they ask for last year’s return. They should also sign the return they complete for you and explain their costs.
