Happy birthday Susan B. Anthony. Close to 780 people helped celebrate one of Rochester’s most famous citizens during the Susan B. Anthony luncheon on Wednesday.

Anthony, a pioneer in the push for women's rights and their right to vote, lived for many years on Madison Street, just west of downtown.

Wednesday’s keynote speaker, author Louise Knight, is an expert on another great reformer, Jane Adams.  The historian shared how the two women's lives often crossed paths and what Anthony did to pave the way for others.

Louise Knight said, “She was carving out a pattern of political organizing for women by doing what she did. It had never been done before.”

News10NBC’s Janet Lomax was honored to serve as emcee for Wednesday’s luncheon. The fund raised at the luncheon help support the Susan B. Anthony House, a national historic landmark that is open to the public for tours.
