The kids at School Number 12 on South Avenue got the chance to embark on an incredible edible education journey Wednesday.
The new program offers students the opportunity to sample seasonal fruits and vegetables and exposes them to nutritional presentations that encourage healthy eating.
Wednesday’s presentation featured locally grown apples and activities to reveal the children's favorites.
“We're really excited to be a part of a lot of great efforts here in Rochester that are trying to expose young kids to really wonderful good food and healthy food choices, and sort of support them in the process of becoming enthusiastic and excited and interested in that,” said Chris Hartman, President of Headwater Foods.
Students will have five separate tastings throughout the school year. The program is funded by a $400,000 grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation.
