The grandson of legendary peace activist and civil rights advocate, Mohandas Gandhi paid a visit to our area in the hopes of spreading his message of non-violence to prison inmates.

Arun Gandhi spoke in front of about 350 inmates as part of the Groveland Correctional Facility's "Season for Non-Violence" celebration. The program teaches that everyone can make the world a more peaceful place through daily nonviolent choices and actions. Gandhi says it's about not letting others control you.

Gandhi said, "It's always somebody trying to provoke you into doing something they want you to do, not what you want to do and what I’m trying to tell people is not to be provoked by that. Why let some stranger take control of your life."

The "Season for Non-Violence" is a 64-day celebration which ends in April with a check presentation to the Rochester Police Department's gun buyback program.
