Olympics ratings helped, not hurt by online viewing

People can watch the Super Bowl commercials online days or even weeks before the opening kickoff - but that doesn't stop them from watching the game and NBC is finding out the same principle works with the coverage of the Olympics.

The Sochi games are the first Olympics where more hours of video can be found online than be found on TV. NBC says more than 30 million people in the U.S. have visited its Olympic Web sites - up 54-percent from the 2010 Vancouver games. At the same time, the network says the extra online content isn't hurting its prime-time broadcasts.

NBC has often been criticized for holding back airing of key events to herd viewers to its nightly show - where the events are packaged into a shiny TV package.
