While athletes are competing for medals in Sochi, some students here in Rochester are competing for one too, but this one is for science.

On Saturday 14 Rochester area middle schools took part in the Science Olympiad Competition at St. John Fisher College...

The students created projects in engineering, biology, physical science and problem solving.

News10NBC caught up with two students from Bay Trail Middle School in Penfield who created a helicopter for one of the competitions. We asked them what their favorite part of the event was.

"I say the building. But also just the way kind of everything could go wrong, but everything could go right, so like, the risk factor," said Paige Jones and Mitch Siegel.

The state competition will take place in April at Greece Arcadia High School. Only two to three teams will attend that competition.

The national competition will take place at the University of Central Florida in May.
