Two people jumped from a window to safety Tuesday morning after their home in East Bloomfield caught fire.

News10NBC is told the two people who lived at the home on Route 444 between Pond and Boughton Roads smelled smoke just before 5 a.m and called 911. We are told the smoke was so intense, they had to use wet towels as masks to breathe. Both residents ended up jumping to safety from a bathroom window. Neither were injured.

A firefighter who responded to the scene slipped and broke his leg. He was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment.

Nine fire companies responded to the blaze. Officials tell us they had to bring water to the scene to fight the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
