Swedish-born forward Linus Omark will pursue his career in Europe after getting his release from the Buffalo Sabres.
Omark went unclaimed on Tuesday, a day after the Sabres placed him on unconditional waivers, the player's agent Kevin Epp said in an email to The Associated Press.
The Sabres made the decision to cut ties with Omark a little more than a week after the player declined to report to Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester.
Epp wrote that Omark is traveling to Europe, though it's not yet clear where he will be playing.
Omark had two assists in 13 games with the Sabres. The 2007 fourth-round draft pick was regarded as a disappointment after Buffalo gave up a conditional sixth-round draft pick in a trade with Edmonton on Dec. 19.
