The National Weather Service is warning of hazardous weather this week in New York, but this time the threat is from freezing rain and flooding rather than falling snow.

A freezing rain advisory is in effect through early Wednesday afternoon in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Forecasters say up to a tenth of an inch of glaze could form from about 4 a.m. on.

Then from Thursday night into Friday, forecasters say rising temperatures may lead to ice-jam flooding on rivers and streams around Buffalo, Rochester and northeast to Watertown.

In eastern and central New York, Tuesday's snow may be followed by rain later in the week, with temperatures rising into the 40s from Wednesday through Saturday.
