NY lawmaker starts petition against Cuomo's proposal on college degrees to inmates

A New York lawmaker has started a petition speaking out against Governor Cuomo’s proposal to give college degrees to inmates.

Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, a republican, represents areas near Albany. He’s started a petition called “Kids Before Cons”, calling on the governor to use tax dollars to fund public schools and not education for prisoners.

The governor’s proposal would cost taxpayers about $5,000 for every inmate getting a degree.
