Monday, retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, Tim Hansen, gave us his take about proposed cuts in the military.
We’re talking about proposals from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.
In a speech Monday, Hagel outlined his vision for the military next year, which includes shrinking the army and closing military bases. Under his plan, the number of active-duty soldiers would shrink from more than 520,000, to between 440,000 and 450,000.
Hansen says all branches of the military are facing cuts, and they have to make it work.
“There's always room for another company the way I see things. But reality we have to deal with what we're given. Now we face the reality of a smaller team. But here's an opportunity to focus on that team, make it the smallest, best team out there,” said Hansen.
Hagel says the Army has to get used to the reality of smaller budgets. We will continue to follow this story as more becomes available.
