Will you take the challenge this year? The United Way of Greater Rochester kicked off its annual campaign Tuesday morning.
News10NBC learned how much the organization hopes to raise and the unique ways it wants to get the community involved. The goal this year is $25.5 million, which is just under the amount raised during the 2013 campaign. The United Way exceeded its goal last year, raising more than $26 million.
2014 campaign chair Dan Burns says this fundraiser is about more than just raising money.
Dan Burns, 2014 Campaign Chair, M&T Bank Regional President, said, "I think one of the things that United Way tries to do is make sure that the money that is spent is not a donation, it's an investment. So we do appreciate the dollars, but we also want to engage the community. We have the Day of Caring coming up in May and throughout the year we have different programs that we could get volunteer's support for and it's been a tremendous way for people to give back to a community like Rochester which we all love."
News10NBC will be tracking the United Way campaign. We will keep you updated on fundraising events and let you know when they reach the goal.
