Samsung is trying to place its new smartphone as a lifestyle product not just a device to make phone calls.

Among the features of the Galaxy S5 is that it has a built-in heart-rate sensor and an improved camera feature. Samsung has continued to carve out a niche for itself in the smartphone industry because of its large, bright phones.

The S5 is 5.1 inches, just a fraction bigger than the 5 inch display of last year's model. Rather than focus on size, Samsung says the new phone is able to adapt its screen to changing external conditions - and can be dimmed by the user to avoid disturbing others nearby.

The new phone will go on sale worldwide on April 11.
