Nearly 50 upstate New York hospitals received $24.5-million in quality improvement incentive payments from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield as part of its Hospital Performance Incentive Program.

In 2013, eight local hospitals participated in the program. They are: Clifton Springs Hospital, UR Medicine’s F.F. Thompson Hospital, UR Medicine’s Highland Hospital, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital, Rochester General Hospital, UR Medicine’s Strong Memorial Hospital and Unity Hospital.

Officials say the program evaluates participating hospitals on more than 250 performance measures including patient satisfaction, patient safety and clinical processes of care.

Over the past decade, Excellus BCBS has spent more than $169-million in performance incentives.
