The City Council has unanimously voted to fill in a portion of Rochester's Inner Loop.
The project will remove the eastern part of the expressway, between Broadway and Richmond Street, and add complete streets in the area.
Officials say this will make it easier for people to walk and bike around the area, as well as allow more development in Rochester's east end.
This project was one of only 52 across the country to receive special federal grant funding.
News10NBC is told construction is scheduled to begin this fall and finish by fall of 2017.
