It started off as a science project, but now it's helped to improve our community.

More than $1,200 is going to a local charity, thanks to the students at Our Lady of Mercy High School.  The girls helped to raise some of the money by holding an electronics recycling event.

They came up with the idea after searching for a science project, which involved the Earth. So they decided to start an electronics recycling event.

Lindsey McAdoo and Krista Barbeau said, “It's actually a really big issue that people don't know about. Some think they could just throw away their old computer and things, but actually it really harms the environment and puts really bad things into our ground water because you could be hurting yourself or your children and you just don't know it.”

The students have not selected which charity the money will go to. They say there were able to collect some pretty big items like TVs to help clean up the environment.
