It is a step forward for healthcare in Genesee County. An official affiliation between Rochester General Health System and United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia was announced Thursday.

The two health systems have partnered together for years for services in areas like cardiology, pathology and surgery. The new partnership will expand on those services and make it more convenient for patients.

Mark Clement, Rochester General Health Services, said, "Our formal affiliation will lead to a continued expansion of healthcare services in the Genesee County area and over time this partnership will result in fewer residents of this community needing to leave their homes, their community, their neighborhoods to receive vital healthcare services.”

RGH officials say the announcement aligns with its recent announcement to partner with Unity Health system as well. Overall, the two recent mergers will mean quality healthcare for more than a million patients throughout a number of counties.
