Opening statements began Tuesday in the trial of a Victor man charged nearly a year ago following a 12-hour standoff at his home on Ketchum Road.

Sheriff's deputies say Ryan K. Whidden, of Victor, barricaded himself in his residence on March 11, 2013 with his wife, Nina, for nearly 12 hours before surrendering to law enforcement. The standoff brought multiple police agencies and emergency vehicles to a quiet Victor neighborhood.

Officers say they forced Whidden to surrender after the 12 hour standoff by using tear gas. No one was hurt.
