Volunteers of America celebrated its 118th anniversary.
At a ceremony Tuesday morning, it was declared VOA week in Rochester. The organization also honored one of its founders, Maud Ballington Booth.
In celebration of Mrs. Booth, VOA unveiled a limited edition “Purse with a Purpose”. The line of purses pays tribute to inspiring and empowering women in American history.
News10NBC spoke to the organization's CEO about what the money from the purses will be used for.
Joanne Ryan, President/CEO of Volunteers of America, said, “It's going to be supporting one of our main programs, Step by Step, that works to support women who are incarcerated, about to be incarcerated and post incarceration. That was one of Maud’s passions, social reform, working with folks who were incarcerated so it's only fitting that the first round of handbags supports that initiative."
Each purse is made of burgundy patent leather with tan leather accents and costs $379. For more information or to place an order, click here.
