Residents from our area gathered at the Strong to learn more about plans to bring high speed trains to New York State on Friday.
Friday, they went over plans for the high-speed rail system and had a chance to ask questions. Officials say high-speed rail would increase tourism and economic development and help reduce highway traffic and pollution.
We spoke with Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and she says they're ready to break ground on a brand new railroad system they've been waiting for, for the past 45 years.
Rep. Slaughter said, "So we can go to New York for the day and come back home at night. It's really pretty great! We need to do it. Everybody else is doing it in the world. It's time the United States caught up."
She says 146,000 people per year go through this railroad station and we need to make it easier for them and thousands of others who will take advantage of a high-speed service.
