Gov. Andrew Cuomo took a spin on a snowmobile as he and other state and local officials gathered in Lake Placid for the Adirondack Winter Challenge, an event to highlight tourism and winter activities in the region.

Cuomo's office says more than 400 elected officials, staff and others spent the afternoon Sunday in friendly competition involving eight-person teams. Events included alpine skiing at Whiteface Mountain, cross-country skiing and bobsledding at Mount Van Hoevenberg, tobogganing in the village, and hockey, curling and skating at the Olympic Center.

Cuomo hosted a warm-weather version of the challenge last summer with whitewater raft races in Indian lake.

In December, the governor rode a snowmobile in the Tug Hill region west of the Adirondacks to promote the state's new $4.5 million winter tourism ad campaign.
