The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has an alert for homeowners and landlords. The sheriff’s office says you should keep a close eye on your email so that you don’t become a victim of a scam.

The office says people have reported receiving emails claiming they have outstanding utility bills from PG&E and they must pay. There is a legitimate PG&E. It stands for Pacific Gas and Electric, which operates utilities for the west coast of the U.S.

Investigators want you to pay close attention because PG&E looks like RG&E. The company says Pacific Gas and Electric has been notified of the scam.
