There’s a change in the Rochester Fire Department. News10NBC has learned that Deputy Chief Martin McMillan is retiring from the department.

A spokesperson tells News10NBC McMillan is going to become the chief of a fire department in Hanover, New Hampshire. McMillan began his career in Rochester 28 years ago. He has been a firefighter, lieutenant, captain and battalion chief before he was promoted to deputy chief.

Deputy Chief McMillan broke his back after another vehicle crashed into his SUV on Main Street late last year. Police say the person driving the other vehicle led officers on a high speed chase before crashing into McMillan's SUV.
