You've watched him for years on News10NBC, now Rich Funke is running for New York State Senate.

Rich says he will run for the 55th Senate District seat. That’s the only currently held by democratic Senator Ted O’Brien. The 55th district covers parts of Irondequoit, city of Rochester, Perinton and East Rochester.

News10NBC spoke with Rich Wednesday morning about why he chose to run. He says he's concerned with the direction New York State is going, especially regarding high taxes and small businesses.

Rich Funke said, "We need to do all we can in New York State to lower taxes, to make this a business friendly state so that we can create more jobs for a prosperous future so our kids can stay home, graduate, come home and have good solid jobs.”

Funke is running as a republican. He says it's important to have a republican controlled state Senate to act as a barrier to downstate democratic interests.
