Authorities say a 22-year-old College at Brockport student has died in a snowboarding accident at an Adirondack ski area.
State police have identified Austin White of Hemlock in Livingston County as the man who died in the accident Sunday afternoon at Whiteface Mountain, near Lake Placid. Troopers say White was snowboarding when he ran off the trail called Excelsior near the intersection of Lower Northway into a wooded area, striking a tree.
Officials at The College at Brockport have confirmed White attended the school, where he was a senior studying exercise science. He was scheduled to graduate in May.
College at Brockport President John Halstead released the following statement, "On behalf of the entire College at Brockport community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Austin White. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time."
Family members say White was in the Adirondacks for spring break and was at Whiteface with a group of friends and his girlfriend.
